5 Reasons you should learn Public Speaking
Why do you need to learn the art of public speaking right now?
Public speaking has always been one of the most important qualification to have in order to excel in almost every field. Whether, you are a sales representative, or a CEO of a multinational company, a kid in primary school or a student pursuing a bachelor’s degree, a job seeker in the corporate world, or an aspiring influencer/youtuber; the art of public speaking has been and always will be the most essential companion in your journey – both professional and personal.
We are all aware of the exponential growth of digital media and how the world has been shrinking to fit into our palms. With this growth, our need to express any of our agenda seems to be possible only through the means of public speaking.
You might ask how? Well, I got you covered.
Continue to read to find out five reasons why you need to develop the art of public speaking in your life right now.
1. Builds Self-confidence
Raise your hands if you are/were someone who would stay confused with their doubts rather than raising their hands in crowd to ask a question (we have all been there). This fear arises due to lack of confidence and the feeling of insecurity of how we might sound and how we will be perceived by other people.
The first step to becoming a good public speaker is eliminating that fear.
When you practice the art of public speaking, you slowly boost your confidence levels. You learn to acknowledge your insecurities and actively try to improve how you present your thoughts and questions in public.
2. Improves presentation skills
In today’s world, presentations are like ‘beat drop’ in EDM; they make everything interesting.
Whether it’s live presentation or an online zoom presentation – the way you move your hands, the gestures you make, the expressions of your face, your pauses, and your posture is what people notice a lot. You might have an exceptional draft in your PowerPoint but the way the you stand in front of it and deliver determines how great your presentation was. Public speaking helps you improve all of these physical aspects that you might have overlooked.
3. Promote your business.
‘What is seen, is sold!’
I will give you a scenario to consider.
Two movies (A and B) are being released on the same date with almost the same story lines and a similar production budget. The star cast of A does press conferences, and posts a video talking about what the movie is about and why you should see it. On the other hand, the star cast of B, posts a picture about the movie’s release date.
Which one would you be interested to see? ( Please assume the preference for star cast is the same for both).
I would personally choose A.
because, No matter how great any product or service is, until and unless the way you advocate for it, isn’t right, you won’t be able to sell it. With the art of public speaking you learn to face the crowd and talk about your product and your services in a way that you can influence customers and promote your business.
4. Advocate your cause/agenda.
Are you against animal torture and wish to raise awareness among people to treat animals right?
Are you trying to empower women around you and give them a voice?
Do you want to help rural communities find funds for development?
Do you have any cause or agenda you want to be vocal about and spread the word in your community?
If your answer to any of these questions was a YES, then, my dear friend you need to learn how to speak and impact a young generation who can help you accomplish your goals.
Social media today holds such an immense power to bring about a change in whichever way you want but in order to do that, you need to ignite that change.
And, public speaking will help you ignite a positive change and develop leadership skills. The world follows great leaders, You don’t believe me?
Go to YouTube and search for ‘GRETA THUNBERG’
I assure you will feel that fire for environmental conservation, that she feels, just by hearing her speak. That’s the power of public speaking skills right there.
5.Builds your knowledge.
Public speaking is not just about the confidence but also the content.
A good speech without a meaningful and informative content is like wearing NKIE shoes and carrying an ADIBAS bag
(you ain’t fooling nobody).
Speaking in front of a group of people needs a lot of courage. But along with courage you also need your well researched content. If you aren’t properly informed about what you are talking about, you can never be able to convince your listeners or make them believe your words.
The art of public speaking makes you able to research facts, collect data and curate them into wholesome sensible content. This whole process helps you build your knowledge and become a better version of yourself.
In conclusion, partying can wait, but skill building can’t.
The earlier you start training yourself to become a better speaker, the better your chances are to reach greater heights in your life.
So, What are you waiting for?
